The role of macrophages in bone tissue repair and biomaterial integration

Abstract: Macrophages are immune cells derived from monocytes, which play a key role in inflammation, tissue repair, and foreign body response. They participate in different stages of tissue remodeling and biomaterial integration by regulating their phenotypes. At the same time, biomaterials can also induce the response and phenotypic transformation of macrophages. In this paper, the role of macrophages in bone reconstruction and the regulation of macrophages in tissue regeneration by biomaterials will be reviewed.
