Clinical application of three-dimensional printed digital customized titanium mesh in guided bone regeneration for alveolar bone reconstruction

Abstract: Severe alveolar bone defects seriously affect dental implant placement and its long-term performance. Guided bone regeneration(GBR)as a reliable technique is able to achieve predictable bone augmentation. Three-dimensional printed digital customized titanium mesh is a new technique to obtain alveolar bone augmentation.For patients with severe alveolar bone defects, the preoperative examination is performed, the information of alveolar and dentition is obtained by radiographic examination and oral scan or model scan respectively,then the implants position is placed according to the principle of prosthetic-driven implant placement. The extent of bone augmentation and the shape of customized titanium mesh are designed with software, and then the digital customized titanium mesh is manufactured with 3D printing technology. The application of customized titanium mesh is conducive to reconstruct the three-dimensional shape of alveolar ridge precisely,and individually. The aim of this article is to summarize pre-opreative evaluation of patients, the key points of the design, clinical application and precautions of customized titanium mesh, in order to further promote its wide and safe application in clinical practice.
